Primal Scream 'disgusted' by politician's song use

Primal Scream 'disgusted' by politician's song use
Primal Scream 'disgusted' by politician's song use, Rockers Primal Scream have slammed Home Secretary Theresa May after she used the band's song Rocks without permission, insisting the group is "disgusted" to be associated with her political party. After her speech at the Conservative Party's annual conference on Tuesday, May walked off the stage to the rockers' 1994 hit. But the move has infuriated the band, who have released a statement mocking the politician for failing to understand the meaning behind the music or Primal Scream's political viewpoint.

The statement reads, "Primal Scream are totally disgusted that the Home Secretary Theresa May ended her speech at the Tory (Conservative) Party conference with our song 'Rocks'.

"How inappropriate. Didn't they research the political history of our band? Hasn't she listened to the words? Does she even know what getting your rocks off means? No. She is a (Conservative) Tory; how could she?

"Primal Scream are totally opposed to the coalition government, (Prime Minister David) Cameron, (Chancellor George) Osborne, (Education minister Michael) Gove, (Michael) Howard, (Deputy Prime Minister Nick) Clegg, etc.

"They are legalised bullies passing new laws to ensure the wealthy stay wealthy, taking the side of big business while eradicating workers rights and continuing their attacks on young people, single parents and OAPs (old age pensioners) by slashing education and social security budgets, in effect persecuting the poor for being poor.

"We would like to distance ourselves from this sick association. The Tories are waging a war on the disenfranchised. They are the enemy."

Sheep Rustling Rise

Sheep Rustling Rise
Sheep Rustling Rise, The rising price of meat and the effects of the recession have been blamed for a massive increase in sheep rustling in the UK.The theft of sheep from farmers' fields has risen fivefold in the last 18 months compared with the last decade, the leading farmers' insurer said. Thieves, who in recent years have reacted to global price rises for metal by stealing scrap and in oil by raiding farm tanks, have even been found to have butchered the meat in fields.

That led the insurer NFU Mutual, which covers two thirds of British farms, to warn potential buyers of the health risk of picking up a bargain which had not been hygienically slaughtered.

Typically, farmers were reporting that a couple of sheep at a time were being stolen - probably bundled into the back of a van to be slaughtered and sold on to friends.

But in some instances, gangs rounded up 100 animals and organised a lorry to whisk the sheep away to be sold on through illegitimate channels. Sheep Rustling Rise,

The problem was worst around Cumbria, North Yorkshire and County Durham.

NFU Mutual spokesman Tim Price said: "In the last 18 months we have seen the number of rustling thefts from farms increase fivefold. We have had about 10 years at a very low level and it has taken off again. We think there are two factors: the price of meat has shot up, and the recession. In the past when there is a downturn in the economy, rural crime goes up."

Thieves have even begun to steal hay after recent price rises due to last year's cold winter and a relatively poor crop in places this summer. Sheep Rustling Rise,

Mr Price said rustling was probably one of the first ever crimes. "Some caveman probably snuck into his neighbour's cave and took away his goat," he said.

Survive plane crash course

Survive plane crash course
Survive plane crash course, British Airways is offering its frequent flyers the chance to trade in their air miles for a course on how to survive a plane crash. For around £125 - the average cost of a round-trip from London to Rome - members of the airline's Executive Club can sign up for the four-hour safety session when it starts next year. Survive plane crash course,
UK airlines actually have a brilliant aviation safety record, with no British passenger jet suffering a fatal smash since 47 people died in the British Midland 737 crash in Leicestershire in 1989.

Which might beg the question of why BA finds it necessary to offer the course. The airline actually developed the passenger-training programme in response to a request by BP, which sends staff into remote areas of the world where safety standards are lower.

And studies have shown that many plane crashes are survivable, with passengers often dying in the moments after the accident. Civil Aviation Authority research actually showed that a large number of passenger struggled with the most basic task of undoing the seat belt.

Andy Clubb, the BA manager running the course, told the Independent: 'It makes passengers safer when travelling by giving additional skills and information, it dispels all those internet theories about the "brace position" and it just gives people so much more confidence in flying.' Crunchy crickets going mainstream in Australia

Crunchy crickets going mainstream in Australia
Crunchy crickets going mainstream in Australia, Looking for a taste treat for a special snack? Perhaps a packet of chocolate covered bugs, chocolate-chip mealworms or cricket lollipops will hit the spot.Australia's Aborigines have been eating witchetty grubs for centuries, but now etymologist Skye Blackburn is breeding edible bugs and selling them to Australians from all walks of life, and as special treats at corporate functions and children's parties.
"Eating insects is a fairly new concept," said Blackburn, who runs The Green Scorpion and bug shop, a Sydney-based online venture that sells the creatures for human and animal consumption, as well as for collections.

"On Father's Day we sold a lot of gift packs, which included chocolate covered bugs, choc-chip mealworm cookies and flavored lollipops with bugs in the centre."

As with many business ventures, the beginning was serendipitous.

"We were doing a pet and animal expo, and needed a good promotional item to get people to come over to the stall. So we started making the lollipops and they were really successful," she said.

She also sells bugs ground up into chocolate-coated cookies, frozen bugs and roasted bugs, so they can be mailed to customers.

A trial pack retails for A$20 ($19.64). The bugs can be bought by the 100 grams or in kilogram lots.

"You would use them like you would use meat really," said Blackburn, adding that mealworms have a nutty mild flavor and are a little bit more crunchy than crickets.

"If you put crickets into a hot dish, like a stir fry or a curry, they do absorb the flavor a little bit better than the mealworm."

Blackburn said edible bugs also offer nutritional benefits.

"Crickets are high in calcium, termites are high in iron and silk worms have special amino acid and good fats in them, while tarantula and water bugs mainly have protein factor," she said, noting that they are also low in fat.

Sales are picking up. Blackburn said the shop sells 1,000 lollipops a week and that she has about 100 regular customers who buy raw insects to use as part of their daily diet, including university professors, doctors and lawyers. Crunchy crickets going mainstream in Australia,

But eating bugs can still be a hard swallow in the land of the barbecue.

"Some people can't get past the fact they are eating a bug," she said.

"Some people spit it out because that would be a normal reaction if you got a bug in your food. Others are willing to try and love it." - Reuters

Gun lovers' ashes turned into ammunition

Gun lovers' ashes turned into ammunition
Gun lovers' ashes turned into ammunition, There's something to be said for going out with a bang. Two Alabama game wardens have devised a smoking send-off for avid hunters and gun enthusiasts: For a small fee, the pair will turn cremated ashes into ammunition that the deceased's loved ones can fire at will.Holy Smoke LLC has serviced only two clients since launching in July, but founders Thad Holmes and Clem Parnell said they have seen an uptick in prearrangements thanks to word-of-mouth and a recent flurry of international press.
"It's about celebrating life," Holmes, a 16-year state conservation officer, said on Friday. "We know how strange it sounds to people who aren't comfortable around guns, but for those who are, it's not weird at all."

Four years in the making, Holy Smoke was born during a late-night stakeout to thwart illegal hunting. Parnell had recently lost a family member, and the conversation shifted to their own reservations about traditional methods for disposing of the departed.

Parnell and Holmes dreamed up a company that would fill shotgun shells and rifle or pistol cartridges with ashes, allowing gun enthusiasts to spend eternity the way they lived their lives.

"People take ashes and spread them across lakes or forests or throw them in rivers, and nobody thinks twice about that. This is no different," said Holmes, who noted that a pound of ash fills about 250 shotgun shells.

Costs start at $850. In addition to handling the ashes of one client each from Kentucky and Florida so far, the Stockton, Alabama, company has received inquiries from members of law enforcement, fire departments and the military who wish to have their service honored in that way when the time comes. Gun lovers' ashes turned into ammunition,

Other clients have requested the service be carried out for their pets, particularly bird dogs who have remained faithful companions throughout the years, Holmes said.

Joyce Harrison of Spanish Fort, Alabama, said she understood why some people might recoil at the concept. But she wishes the option had been available seven years ago when her husband of 42 years died of cancer.

"Toward the end he wasn't able to spend as much time hunting as he liked, but he took off any time he felt strong enough to get through, and he always came home so relaxed and at peace with everything," Harrison said. "This would have been perfect for him." Gun lovers' ashes turned into ammunition,

“I think they must just have lists of people on computers and they send it out to them but the point is she was a female getting offered penis treatment.”

Ann’s friends have also expressed their disgust about the incident and back her calls for answers.

Ann said: “We’ve spoken to a few people about it and they think it’s just awful and something should be done about it.

“It was my mother’s anniversary as well which just made it worse,” added Ann.
